              After the Russian Revolution, Eugen Beyer, who was born in 1903 in St. Petersburg, and his family moved to Sweden before moving at the beginning of the 1920s to Berlin, the central hub at the time for emerging audio technology. In the early years of talking pictures (“talkies”), the young electrical engineer founded a company in Berlin for manufacturing cinema loudspeakers.

              Series production of the first dynamic headphones, the DT 48, began. These headphones continued to be part of the company’s product range until the end of 2012.

              beyerdynamic launched the first studio-quality dynamic microphone, the M 19, which went down in history as the reporting microphone of the then “Reichs-Rundfunk-Gesellschaft” (Reich Broadcasting Corporation).

              Due to the fact that the company’s factory and machinery had been destroyed in World War II, the company relocated to Heilbronn in 1948. There, the company initially manufactured products in an old officers’ mess on Bismarckstraße.

              A revolutionary development for record stores occurred whereby the DT 49 Stielhörer (handheld “stick” headphones) began to feature in the famous record bars of the 1950s.

              Following the sudden death of Eugen Beyer, his son Fred R. Beyer (1934 – 2008) took over at the helm of the company at just 26 years old. He went on to run beyerdynamic for over 40 years and navigated the company from one innovative development to the next.

              The company moved into its new premises at Theresienstraße 8 where the company’s headquarters (including the manufacturing facility) have been located ever since. Over the company’s long and successful history, the premises have undergone numerous extensions, upgrades and conversions.

              Production of the “transistophone”, the first wireless microphone, began.

              beyerdynamic’s newly developed M 88 directional microphone was the only microphone chosen for the official events in the programme of Queen Elizabeth II’s royal visit to Australia.

              The E 1000 made its breakthrough by being chosen as the exclusive microphone for The Beatles’ first ever tour of Germany. At the time, only insiders were aware that it was a beyerdynamic ribbon microphone, which had been supplied as an OEM product to an orchestra electronics supplier.

              The M 500 ribbon microphone proved that the robustness of ribbon microphones often criticised in old textbooks was finally a thing of the past.

              beyerdynamic launched the DT 204 quadrophonic headphones.

              The first tour-guide system, called “Informaphone FSE 20”, was launched.

              The ET 1000, the first electrostatic headphones to be developed and manufactured in Germany, were launched on the market.

              The DT 880 dynamic headphones, boasting electrostatic reproduction, became the classic headphones of the premium line.

              The MC 740 studio microphone, featuring switchable directional patterns, also propelled beyerdynamic to the front of the pack of condenser microphone manufacturers.

              Music fans were treated to something truly special with the release of the new premium-line DT 770 and DT 990 headphones featuring so-called diffuse-field equalised frequency response.

              A beyerdynamic 18-channel wireless system was used for the production of the hit musical “Cats” in Amsterdam.

              All commentary stations at the Olympic Games in Seoul (South Korea) were equipped with beyerdynamic’s DT 109 headset.

              The extremely robust and high-volume series of TG-X microphones for musicians, which was the world’s first ever series of dynamic microphones to feature a neodymium magnet, was launched.

              The MC 742 stereo studio microphone once again showcased beyerdynamic’s impressive expertise in the field of high-quality condenser microphones.

              beyerdynamic showcased its first ever wireless UHF system featuring synthesiser technology, the U 600, at the Musikmesse trade fair in Frankfurt am Main.

              The DT 200 series of headsets, designed for professional applications, was launched. The DT 531 hi-fi headphones were awarded the Diapason d'Or in France.

              The RSS 433 wireless headphones enabled users to enjoy music indoors and outdoors without the need for any cables. The world’s smallest studio clip-on microphone, the MCE 7, was added to the microphone portfolio as a Pro Audio product.

              The MCD 100, the world’s first ever digital studio microphone, was unveiled at the AES Convention in Copenhagen.

              In Germany, the new musical “Beauty and the Beast” became the first to use a beyerdynamic U 600 32-channel UHF system.

              beyerdynamic unveiled its new digitally controlled microphone conference systems MCS and MCW. MCW was the world’s first wireless conference system to go into series production.

              The SMS 600 stereo in-ear monitoring system was another technical innovation, providing users with complete freedom of movement during broadcasts, stage shows and tours.

              beyerdynamic expanded its range of condenser microphones with the addition of the MCE 90 series. Development of the MCD 100 digital microphone continued with the MCD series 801/803/805. The new Bundestag (German Federal Parliament) in Berlin was equipped with beyerdynamic digital microphones.

              beyerdynamic launched the Opus range, a total package aimed at musicians and suitable both for vocal and instrumental recordings.

              The introduction of the TTS 30 enabled users to carry out mobile conferences, guided tours of museums, plant visits and simultaneous interpreting by connecting the listeners to the information source (i.e. the speaker) wirelessly.

              beyerdynamic launched the MCW-Digital, the first ever digital wireless conference system, which also boasted an unprecedented level of security and ease of operation.

              After more than 40 years in charge, Fred R. Beyer left the company which he had taken over at the age of 26 and developed into a world-renowned and globally recognised company for professional microphones and headphones. His time at the helm included the launch of the first wireless microphone in 1962 and the launch of the “classic” DT 100 headphones in 1965.

              The new DT 297 commentator headset ensured that commentators at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea and Japan could stay on the ball at all times. The new generation of gooseneck microphones and the MC 930 small-diaphragm condenser microphone featuring a cardioid pattern were also unveiled.

              Wolfgang Luckhardt took over as the CEO of beyerdynamic, assuming all the duties and responsibilities involved. This was the first time that a family member was not at the helm of the company. Luckhardt went on to ensure in the years that followed that the company was run in the interests of the family and in line with their vision.

              The new Opus 800 wireless microphone series boasting an “automatic channel targeting” function was launched aimed at musicians.

              beyerdynamic’s steno-s recording software was launched, enabling users to record meetings and conferences in order to then log and archive them. The patented “EarPatron” hearing protection technology for headphones was incorporated into the SIS interpreter system for the very first time.

              The world’s first online headphone MANUFAKTUR service was launched, enabling customers to configure the premium DT 770, DT 880 and DT 990 headphones and make them unique and personal.

              The new Opus 900 wireless system was launched for the professional touring and installation market.

              The launch of the HS 300 pilot headset signalled the introduction of the new Aviation business unit. Powerful digital wired components and individual customised conference solutions were added to the portfolio as a result of the takeover of the Hanover-based conference technology specialist interkom.

              The first mobile headphone system to enable professional monitoring with virtual 5.1 playback was called Headzone and set new standards for studio applications.

              The HS 600 DANR, the world’s first headset featuring digital advanced noise reduction (DANR) designed for communications in airplane cockpits, helped the company capture new market shares. beyerdynamic launched the TG-X 930, a top-class vocal microphone, propelling it to the forefront of this product segment.

              The products Headzone Gaming and Headzone Home allowed users to finally enjoy surround-sound headphone technology at home.

              The expansion of the MANUFAKTUR service to include both gaming and aviation headsets reinforced the “handmade in Germany” brand positioning.

              The collaboration with the furniture manufacturer Rosenthal Einrichtung led to the launch of a foldable built-in communication station with integrated Revoluto technology and connector panel for conference tables.

              The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) equipped its conference facilities in Paris with beyerdynamic’s modern conference and interpreting technology Revoluto and SIS.

              The MANUFAKTUR M(y)88 microphone enabled the classic M 88 TG microphone to be manufactured using contemporary design features and the artist’s own personal ideas.

              It won beyerdynamic the Red Dot Design Award in the 2009 Product Design category. A wireless version of the Revoluto technology was added to the conference range. The T 1 became the new top model in the premium line and the first member of a new generation of acoustic transducer headphones: Tesla headphones.

              The T 50 p (the first set of mobile headphones with Tesla technology made in Germany) won the EISA Product Award and so was crowned mobile headphone set of the year in Europe. The company launched the DT 1350, the first set of headphones featuring Tesla technology for professional studio applications.

              The versatile wireless system Synexis was launched. It can be used as a tour-guide, interpreter or transmission system for live commentary as well as a mobile whispering/chuchotage system, assistive listening device and command system.

              Quinta, the new 5th-generation wireless conference system, was launched, featuring cutting-edge technology such as smart, fail-safe frequency changeover, an AVB interface and smartphone or tablet PC control.

              The new CUSTOM ONE headphone series was launched and marketed as “interactive” in that the headphones could be adapted in line with the user’s personal style. beyerdynamic developed a new generation of headphones with a personalizable design and sound characteristics that could be adapted with the so-called soundslider.

              The TG 1000 was the first digital 24-bit wireless system covering an impressive 319 MHz of the UHF range (470 – 789 MHz) and proving itself equally suitable for stage applications as for conference applications.

              beyerdynamic founded subsidiaries in India and Singapore. The new shipping centre in Talheim began operations. The large and modern storage and logistics space laid the necessary foundations for managing future demand.

              The company celebrated its 90th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, the T 90 Jubilee headphones and a limited-edition version of the M 88 TG microphone were launched. A new wired conference system was unveiled in the form of Orbis.

              Edgar van Velzen took over responsibility for the company as the CEO with the aim of driving the company’s strategic development.

              The Aventho Wireless were the first on-ear headphones to feature the innovative MOSAYC personalization software.

              BYRDLAND, the new series of in-ear headphones featuring a flat design yet meeting extremely high sound quality standards, was launched.

              The size of the workforce at the Heilbronn site grew faster than in any other year to take the number of employees working there to 400.

              The Phonum wireless speakerphone and its Gecko Fix & Follow function were released, constituting the company’s first conference system for small meeting rooms.

              beyerdynamic underwent a full rebranding exercise and unveiled its new brand identity at the IFA trade show under the tagline: YOUR BEYERDYNAMIC.

              The LAGOON ANC headphones, beyerdynamic’s first ANC headphones, were released and were immediately recognised as the world’s best headphones in terms of sound quality, operation and ANC performance.

              The Sydney Opera House opted to use UNITE as its tour-guide system. One of the first ever UNITE customers was also one of the most famous.

              The range of MOSAYC headphones featuring the innovative personalization software was increased to include a total of 6 products, ensuring there is something for everyone.

              The new high-end headphone models T1 and T5 in the 3rd generation inspire music lovers.
